Notes:

(1) Transponders used in communications satellites receive incoming signals over a range, or band, of frequencies and simultaneously retransmit the signals on a different band.

(2) The theory of diffusion inspired by Everett Rogers argues that the concept of modernity has to be inoculated into developing countries, the modernity ideology being the necessary precursor of the setting up of development programs.

(3) Have we not witnessed the same scenario since the emergence of the Internet? As an example, one can read on UNESCO's website concerning a particular project that "Using Information and communication technologies to reinforce efficiency of associations and social enterprises" is the goal of the UPCASE project. See http://www.unesco.org/webworld/news/2002/020402_esnet.shtml.
